July: Meals, Miles, Books and Looks

July has been kind of an off month for me and I didn't fully realise it until I wrote this monthly recap.  I can't think of any specific reason for it so I'm going to blame it on the fact that its winter.

Meals

July just couldn't keep up the momentum created by a successful June.  I ended up eating out a lot and having take out a bit too often as well.  I do have two meals to share with you though.

Kane discovered a place that sells prawn crackers near his new workplace so he picked up a couple of bags for us.  Back in the old country we would often get prawn crackers and sweetcorn egg drop soup.  I've never even seen egg drop soup on sale here so I needed to learn how to make it and I was so surprised just how easy this is!  We had it about 3 times and I'll definitely be making it again.

The other thing I made this month was roasted cauliflower cheese.  I'd never tried roasting the cauliflower first and I'm glad I tried this variation.  It really gives a different flavour to this classic and we both enjoyed it a lot even though Kane's not normally a fan of cauliflower.

The third picture above is of cherry and cinnamon tea.  I've had it quite a few times this month and its a really nice warming winter tea.

Miles: 17.5km PBs 2.5k

A surprisingly low mileage month considering I had two races this month and I'm in the middle of two race series and training for the Auckland 12k.  Again, I'm just putting down to having an off month and I'm hoping to get my mojo back soon.  I managed a PB for my 2.5k race but with such a low mileage month I'm a bit nervous about the upcoming 5k.

I also only managed yoga about twice this month too. I went on Monday and it felt so good at the time, but then I ended up sore for the rest of the week, I think maybe my body is fighting an illness, because so many people around me are sick at the moment.

Books

I haven't finished any books this month.  I'm currently reading Mort(e) by Robert Repino but I can't seem to get into yet.  I've got a couple of other books from the library that I need to read so perhaps I will switch to one of those others ones for now.

Looks

Ha, I remembered to take a picture of an outfit I wore to dinner with Kane's friends and former work colleagues.  I ended up being so paranoid about the V being too low that I stapled it!  I was happy to wear my gray heeled boots though because I've been living in my flat ankle boots all autumn and winter.

The other picture is of me in my fetching Lions vest and hat :)  My Lions Club run a sausage sizzle and a second hand book stall at the local monthly market day to raise funds for the community.  I do love working market days because I really feel like part of the community.

  1. July was a weird month for me too between resigning from my job and starting a new one. It's been a good month but a little stressful. Plus not sleeping well is kind of wearing on me. :( But all is all it was a good month because I got to see my family, went to a wedding with my boyfriend and hosted a fun dinner party. The best meal was either the food at my parents for the 4th of July or the pork I made for my party on Saturday. My mileage was pretty high since it's marathon training season and I think I read 7 books!

I hope your upcoming 5k goes well! Winter months are always tough for me in terms of exercise as I'm not as motivated to get outdoors when it's colder outside...

I have stapled V-neck tops before too! Here's to a much better August :)

I have a couple of dresses where I consider the V to be too low and I usually safety pin it shut but stapling it is honestly a great idea :)

July was a little blegh for me too. Here's hoping August is better!
