Long Weekend

I've just had a lovely lazy long weekend.

It started on Friday evening when I went to the mall and picked up my lovely new Starbucks cup, 2 OPI nail polishes and some pretty Christmas decorations from Kikki.K.

My new Starbucks cup

On Saturday it was raining so we did some housework and grocery shopping for the week and then spent the rest of the day playing computer games and then watched some TV.

Sunday was devoted to watching sports and it started early at 4am with the NZ v South Africa rugby semi final - it was a real nailbiter and I was relieved when NZ won.  Then we had 2 NHL games to watch, Leafs v Canadiens and Red Wings v Canuks.  The Leafs played well but the opposing goal tender is just a machine!  And Kane was happy that the Red Wings won out.  I also gave myself that much needed pedicure so now I have happy feet and pretty pink nails.

Reminds me of the Griswold car in Christmas Vacation

The adverts during sports games are all pretty much the same: cars, tyres, fast food, beer.  After hours of them I caved in and got us a Wendys for dinner with beers that we already had in house.

Monday was Labour Day and we tackled the garden.  I'm glad I got some hard labour in otherwise I would have felt like it was a very inactive weekend!  It's going to take a good many hours of work to get the garden back into shape.  My goal here is to get the garden totally tidy, beds all empty, new raised beds built and filled with soil, new garden lights, and the bbq area decorated in the next 4 months.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!  Do you paint your nails?  What's your go-to favourite colour?

Sports!

My life this week seems to have revolved around watching sport!

On Wednesday it was a FIFA U20 football match between Ukraine and Senegal.  I'm not really a football fan but Kane is and he had bought tickets for all the Auckland group matches plus the final which is next week, which have all been held at North Harbour Stadium.

I enjoyed the stadium atmosphere, the Ukraine fans were very vocal with their songs, chants and cheers.  The game went to extra time and then to a penalty shoot out and unfortunately it didn't go their way and Senegal won with the final score as 1-1, with 1-3 to Senegal on penalties.

Often at sports matches vegetarian food is limited to hot chips, so I was impressed to see that falafel wraps was an option and they were tasty too.  Later on we got some donuts, which were nice enough but not even close to value for money.

On Thursday sport came in the forms of our ice skating class and then watching the last of season one of Friday Night Lights.  I'm really enjoying this show!  It's an older show that ran for 5 seasons and its centred around a high school American football team in small town Texas.  I'll be starting on season 2 very soon!

Friday took Kane and I to the rugby at Eden Park and the last Blues game of the season.  It was a massive defeat and the Highlanders won 44-7.  It had rained beforehand and the Blues have performed poorly this season so the stadium was pretty quiet.  We put a blanket down on our seats to stop us from getting too wet and the security lady chatted to us for a while since there was hardly anyone in our stand.  The donut girl from the football appeared selling donuts but we weren't buying this time.

At half time it started to rain pretty heavily again and we had to move to seek some shelter.  We got seats under cover at the opposite end of the stadium but I was wet, cold and grumpy by this time!

I was up early on Saturday for hot yoga.  It was a different instructor from usual, and it was nice to have that change.  I decided to stay and do the yin yoga class that followed because I felt that I needed a good stretch - this turned out to be the best idea.

In the late afternoon we headed out to the ice rink once again, but this time it was to watch ice hockey and the first home game of the season.  The West Auckland Admirals got beat by the Southern Stampede 3-11.  I was on the lookout for the donut girl, but there were no donuts on sale here - a gap in the market?

On Sunday we meant to watch the latest Stanley Cup playoff game on NHL GameCenter but I ended up sorting out some stuff for choir and practising the new songs that were emailed out on Saturday, and I wasn't able to go to the Admirals hockey game since it clashed with choir practise (which was awesome! we are starting to sound like a choir) but I saw that the Admirals got beat again :(

In summary, great week for me, not so great for my sports teams :/

This Past Week and a Bit

I've been wanting to blog for a while but have been having trouble trying to think of something substantial to blog about. Instead I have lots of little things to note which I think that's what Twitter is for but I'm blogging it all anyway.

So for starts there was the Edinburgh Rugby 7s which was on 30th and 31st May. It was a really good weekend. The sun was shining, the chips were hot and the beer was cool enough. I had to go out on the Sunday and buy shorts and vests to wear as I discovered that all my summer clothes are at my parents' house. I also have a nagging suspicion that none of them will fit me anyway.

I always like the 7s because it is a rare chance to surround myself with my fellow kiwis and there are loads of people in fancy dress and silly outfits. My favourites from this year were the really brave guys in Morph suits, the buff looking cavemen and of course The Stig.

Later that week, I met up with a friend of mine who now lives in San Diego and it was really good catching up. The conversation always flows so naturally and I hope I'm not offending Rosie, when I say that I think we are quite alike in a lot of ways – we have similar tastes and similar thoughts on many things. Later on we met up with hubby and pub quiz team where sailed to victory! Another £50 bar tab under our belts!

And then on Saturday it was my cousins wedding. It was held at Forrester Park Resort which was a lovely location for a wedding and everyone agreed how lovely it was inside. I discovered an unfortunate side affect from having to do the dance-offs at the pub quiz so often is that I have almost forgotten how to dance normally. It took a few attempts before I was dancing normally again, but I did treat the others to a few of my classic moves including the robot.

The rest of the weekend was spent watching the last of the Big Bang Theory and the start of Greys Anatomy season 4 and I've started knitting a singlet. So I expect knitting and Greys Anatomy will be how I spend the majority of my time over the next while.

As well as knitting, other plans include Resident Evil 5, getting creative with this blog layout and my Twitter page, and reading about how to get skinny and putting it into action. Well that's the plan anyway.
