Cinco de Mayo

So due to living in the Southern Hemisphere the 30th April is seasonally equivalent to Hallowe'en (although we still celebrate Hallowe'en on 31st October) this makes it a good time to watch horror movies.  Now I'm a total wuss when it comes to actually scary movies so I tend to stick to the safer franchises like Scream, Final Destination, and such like.  After watching Scream 4 and finding it enjoyable we watched I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. OMG this is a terrible movie! This prompted us to find other low rated movies which lead to Kane finding Pinata Survival Island.  He read the synopsis and it sounded hilarious! Since it is set on Cinco de Mayo and, surprisingly, Fatso.co.nz had the movie I ordered straight away so we could make a night of it.

The movie stars Nicholas Brendon (Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jaime Pressly (Joy from My Name is Earl and also Tina in DOA), Nate Richert (Harvey from Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and Garret Wang (Harry Kim from Star Trek: Voyager) - with a cast list like this, how can we go wrong!  The plot of the movie is fairly simple - a group of college kids go to the island for a scavenger hunt, two of them find an ancient pinata filled with demons and evil souls and crack it open, the pinata then starts to hunt and kill them off.

It is not very scary but there is a tiny bit of gore, there are also some really funny parts - most of them I'm not so sure are intentional - like half way through the movie the pinata develops the ability to change into a flying worm like thing, I don't know how .. or why.

To accompany such fine viewing I cooked up a big batch of chilli which we had with refried beans and rice.  I have become paranoid about calling this chilli after that episode of the big bang theory where Sheldon calls Priya's chilli a casserole!

My chilli recipe is:

* a little oil
* 2 x brown onions, sliced
* 1 x clove garlic, crushed and sliced
* 1 x thai chilli, sliced
* diced capsicum (mixed colours)
* frozen mixed veg
* tin of kidney beans
* tin of brown lentils
* large tin of diced tomatoes
* tbsp tomato paste
* few drops of liquid smoke

 Heat the oil in the pan then soften up the onions and garlic
Add the sliced up chilli and capsicum and cook for a few minutes
Add the kidney beans, lentils, tomatoes and frozen mixed veg and give it a stir up
Add the tomato paste and liquid smoke stir it up and leave to cook until everything is soft and hot.  I usually let this simmer away for 20 minutes while the rice is cooking.

Clip for Bobs Burgers

I don't watch this show, but I see this clip on TV and it always makes me laugh - I don't know why!

I was having a browse when I came across this here video of an event I attended - I don't know why I was so surprised to see myself but there I am, milling around, oblivious to any filming going on!

On a different note, I'm definitely getting a hair cut and going on a diet!!

My Machines!

Whilst listening to my work colleague telling his daughter that she cannot use his home laptop, I was reminded of an incident where my husband had used something of mine that he wasn't supposed to.

I think he put a plastic spoon or something in the dishwasher and it came out pink, I don't really remember but I totally flipped out at the time.  I started ranting about how he shouldn't touch my stuff and that it was my spoon, MY SPOON!.  "Who's spoon?" he said - my head just about exploded and all he could do was laugh.  Of course I realised my ridiculousness and we both laughed a lot about it.

It was almost like this clip from Scrubs which I have forwarded to my colleague to pass on to his daughter :D

Intermediate Pole Dancing Graduation

Ok, I'm finally getting around to posting up my intermediate pole dance routine. The video's a bit rubbish since I filmed it myself and I managed to cut the top off everything and the routines a bit rubbish since it was totally last minute. But I did it and amazingly I passed so here you go:

A New Activity

I decided to try something a little different last night, to break out of my comfort zone. It's something that I've wanted to try for a while – Pole Dancing!

After a quick Google search I found Pole Hunnies and got in touch with them.

I roped in my niece and we both went to a taster class to see what it was all about. I wasn't sure what to expect. There were two instructors one was average height and very lean, the other was short like me and told us she was 14 stone (89kg). The shorter girl had an injury (not from pole dancing!) that meant she wasn't supposed to demonstrate any of the moves (she did show us one though). The other girl did most of the demonstrating and she wore ordinary workout wear that I would wear to the gym – except for her amazing flashing high heels of course!

There were about 8 of us in the class and we started with walking around the pole to get comfortable. We then learned a few moves, a couple of different spins called Fireman and Dizzy and then we learned how to put it all together as a routine.

Most of the time we were either concentrating on what we were trying to do or laughing at ourselves doing what felt like ridiculous things. It certainly wasn't at all sexy! It was however, a huge amount of fun and gave me a laugh. And even though every muscle in body aches today, I'm going to sign up for more classes – I just need to come up with a Pole name ???

Further Adventures in Cat Sitting

Those pair of kittens never stop! They run around and around; chew cables; scratch the table; pull fridge magnets off the fridge; climb the clothes horse; chew the rug; climb the curtains; attack the tie backs; crawl behind the book case; jump behind the TV cabinet; stand on top of their litter tray and chew the poop scoop; attack each other; climb the cat sitters! All at break-neck speed! It is truly exhausting being in their company for any length of time, I don't know how Ali does it. Here is the cat-sitting montage:

Another energetic pair is my bro-in-law and nephew. They both ran the Stirling 10k today and got personal bests. I'm very proud of them. My nephew, Billy certainly has the running bug now so I'm going to investigate some races they may be interested in next. It's also got me thinking about running too - maybe I'll go for a wee jog tomorrow morning ...

We've been cat-sitting for my SIL. She has 2 very cute kittens, they must be about 12 weeks old now and they do everything at high speed and are into everything! I videoed them last night, take a look on youtube.

I also watched the first episode of Alias, which I have borrowed from a friend. It was quite good so I'm going to try and watch more of the first season over the weekend.

I ended up having a snooze this afternoon after being woken up at 2am by a fire alarm at the "massage parlour" near my flat. It was somewhat amusing watching all the prostitutes huddling in the doorway to keep out of the rain. It's not something that I don't normally see, despite the proximity to the premises. It reminded my of a blog I came across a while ago call My Neighbours are Hoors! which amused me and kinda makes me miss Aberdeen.
